How to read this table

Going rate is the annual salary (for most health and education jobs, such as doctors, nurses and teachers, it is set by national pay scales instead) for a 37.5-hour week; it must be pro-rated for other hours. On the standard route you need the higher of £41,700 or the going rate. Lower rates apply if you qualify: 90% with a relevant non-STEM PhD, 80% with a relevant STEM PhD, and 70% as a new entrant (for example under 26, a recent graduate, or switching from a Student or Graduate visa). The figures shown are as published in the Immigration Rules, and the general minimums (£37,500 for non-STEM PhDs and £33,400 for other lower options) also apply.

Shortage lists: being on the Temporary Shortage List makes a medium-skilled job eligible, but it does not lower the salary – you still need £41,700 or the going rate (whichever is higher), unless you qualify for a lower option such as the new entrant or PhD rates. Jobs on the Immigration Salary List can be paid from £33,400 (and at least the going rate). Most Immigration Salary List entries are due to be removed on 31 December 2026, so check the date shown for your job.

Not sure of your code? Your employer chooses it when they assign your Certificate of Sponsorship. You can also look up your job’s occupation code on gov.uk. Read our Skilled Worker visa guide for the full rules.
