This policy explains what personal data Sponsorly collects when you use sponsorly.co.uk, why, and the choices you have. We have tried to keep it short and in plain English.

The short version

You can search Sponsorly without an account. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we only use analytics cookies if you click "Accept".

Who we are

Sponsorly is run by Muhammad Umar, an individual based in the United Kingdom, who is the data controller for this website. For any privacy question or request, email privacy@sponsorly.co.uk.

What we collect and why

1. Searches you make

The sponsor search runs in your browser: the register data is downloaded to your device and the names you type are matched there, not sent to us. When you open a company's detail page, the company name or number is sent to our server so we can fetch public company information from Companies House. We do not link these lookups to you.

2. Technical information (server logs)

Like almost every website, our hosting provider automatically records basic technical details when a page is requested, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. This is used to keep the site secure and working, and is kept only for a short period. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure, reliable website.

3. Analytics (only with your consent)

If you click "Accept" on our cookie banner, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how the site is used, for example which pages are popular and how people find us. This helps us improve the tool and guides. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information such as pages visited, approximate location (city or country), device and browser type. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. Analytics data is kept for 14 months. Our lawful basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time (see below). If you click "Reject" or ignore the banner, Google Analytics is not loaded at all.

4. Emails you send us

If you email us, we use your email address and message only to reply and deal with your request. Emails are kept for as long as needed to handle your request, and normally no longer than 2 years. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to you.

Cookies and similar technologies

  • sp_consent (stored in your browser's local storage): remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics. It is necessary to respect your choice and stays until you clear your browser data.
  • _ga and _ga_6173986BNH (Google Analytics cookies, only after you accept): distinguish visits and sessions. They last up to 2 years.

To change your choice at any time, use the Cookie settings link in the footer of every page. Rejecting after accepting stops analytics from loading; you can also delete existing cookies in your browser settings.

Who we share data with

We do not sell or rent personal data. We use a small number of trusted service providers who process data on our behalf:

  • Namecheap – website hosting and email forwarding.
  • Google – Google Analytics (only with your consent), Google Fonts (your browser requests the site's fonts from Google's servers, which receive your IP address), and Gmail (to read and reply to emails).
  • Companies House – receives the company name or number when a company detail page is opened, to return public company information.

Some of these providers may process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where this happens, they rely on legal safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as the UK–US data bridge or standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018) you have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct or delete it;
  • object to, or ask us to restrict, how we use it;
  • receive a copy of data you gave us in a portable format;
  • withdraw your consent to analytics at any time.

To use any of these rights, email privacy@sponsorly.co.uk. We will reply within one month. Please note that because we do not ask you to identify yourself, we usually hold very little data that we can link to you.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, please contact us first. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Children

Sponsorly is a tool for job seekers and is not aimed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect their personal data.
